Maria McCaffery, chief executive of Renewable UK has announced that she will step down from her role in spring next year. Her successor will be recruited in the coming weeks.
We’d be interested to know if the new government and its attitude towards renewable energy development has been a deciding factor for McCaffery.
Maria said her time leading Renewable UK had been the “most interesting and rewarding” of her career.
“When I took on this role, wind power met only 1 per cent of UK electricity needs. Today we’re delivering 10 per cent, so we’re in a very different place to where we were ten years ago.
As we approach our fifth decade it seems timely for new leadership to address the next challenges for this great industry. I have no doubt that Renewable UK will continue to build on its success in the future.”
Perhaps the recent subsidy cuts and lack of support for the renewables industry has prompted her decision.
We hope her replacement is up to the challenge of promoting the renewable industry and challenging the current government on environmental policies and carbon targets.
