Over 1.5 million customers have switched their electricity supplier so far in 2015 according to Energy UK.
Switching rates hit record highs earlier this year after a governmental ‘Power to Switch’ campaign. The campaign advised consumers that they could be saving around £200 a year by switching helping raise awareness of the deals that are out in the energy market.
Despite pressure being laid on the Big Six before the election with regard to their pricing structures and on-going pleas from Amber Rudd, prices have only been decreased by a small amount.
This explains why independent suppliers have gained a 26 per cent share of switches since the start of the year.
Energy UK’s chief executive Lawrence Slade said:
“There are now even more suppliers for customers to choose from. It is great to see thousands of households continuing to take advantage of this by switching electricity provider each month. Many customers will be coming off their fixed energy deals over the coming weeks so now is a good time to look around to see what deals are on offer.”
It seems that consumers have realised that remaining loyal to a Big Six supplier will only have a negative effect on their bank balance rather than an improved customer service.
